Household hazards

Making your home safe

Most accidents happen in the home, which is why it is important to ensure that your home is safe for all your family, especially for young children. Children learn about their world by exploring it. They are curious by nature and need careful and gentle guidance from a young age about what danger is and what to stay away from. Shouting at or smacking children will not teach them about safety.

Some dangers around the home

Are you doing everything you can to prevent the risk of an accident?

The best way to teach children about safety is by example.

In front of children be sensible and careful about cooking, candles, medicines and other risks.

If you are still worried, contact your surgery or NHS Direct. If you cannot get help straight away go to an Urgent Care Centre or to the A&E Department.
